Welcome
The State of Ohio is recognized by National Institute of Standards and Technologies and certified as a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program.
The State of Ohio Weights and Measures Metrology Laboratory is open for calibration of test equipment. The Ohio Metrology Laboratory adopts all requirements of the NIST Handbook 105 series for commercially used standards. Owners of commercially used standards should familiarize themselves with these publications in order to be aware of any requirements not covered in detail in this policy. The NIST 105 series of standards can be found here.
For scheduling standards to be calibrated, please call our office or email Metrology@agri.ohio.gov.
Metrology Lab Policy
This document outlines the logistics of submitting items to the laboratory for calibration as well as the expectations for the customer. You can find the Metrology Lab fee schedule here.
NVLAP Accreditation & Scope
The Weights and Measures Metrology Laboratory is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for services listed on the lab’s Scope of Accreditation.
NIST Recognition & Scope
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Office of Weights and Measures (OWM), administers a metrology laboratory recognition program for federal, state, and local government laboratories which perform calibrations of commercially used field standards.
This annual recognition process evaluates each laboratory’s compliance with the current versions of NIST Handbook 143 (State Weights and Measures Laboratories Program Handbook) and ISO/IEC 17025 (General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories).
NIST OWM issues a Certificate of Metrological Traceability, with an effective date range, for laboratories which demonstrate evidence of compliance with NIST HB 143 and ISO/IEC 17025. This certificate defines the calibration parameters and scope for which the laboratory has been recognized by NIST OWM.
