A new study highlights the importance of Ohio’s wine and grape industries. The economic impact study, using figures from 2022 and conducted by John Dunham & Associates and funded by the Ohio Grape Industries Committee (OGIC), found that the wine and grape industries in Ohio:

•    Brought in $6.6 billion in economic activity.
•    Created 40,399 jobs.
•    Generated $1.9 billion in wages.
•    Accounted for 2,327,150 winery visits.
•    Produced upwards of 1.2 million gallons of wine in a 12-month period.
•    Ranked 7th in the country when it comes to wine economic output.

“Ohio’s bustling wine and grape industries provide more than just great products,” said Tracy Intihar, Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Interim Director. “They create thousands of jobs and bring in billions of dollars to the state, in addition to providing local tasting rooms, beautiful vineyards, and top-notch food options to make memories with friends and family at Ohio’s wineries.”

Ohio is home to 323 wineries. The state also has 21 grape juice, jam, and jelly producers.

This study used standard econometric models first developed by the U.S. Forest Service and now maintained by IMPLAN, LLC. Data came from OGIC, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, Ohio State University 2022 Ohio Grape Grower Survey additional industry sources, government publications, and DataAxle.

The OGIC was established in 1981 and operates in part through ODA.
