About Us
The Office of Chief Legal Counsel serves as the in-house legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). The legal office supports ODA’s administration by negotiating contracts and agreements with outside parties to further ODA’s mission. The legal office also provides support and assistance to ODA regarding enforcement of Ohio’s agricultural laws and regulations, and collaborates with the Ohio Attorney General’s office when litigation needs arise.
The legal office works with industry stakeholders and ODA’s leadership to develop rules and reasonable regulations in order to protect Ohio farmers and consumers. Finally, the legal office ensures compliance with the Ohio Sunshine Laws by processing public records requests and assisting ODA’s boards and commissions with Open Meetings Law.
The Chief Legal Counsel serves as the Chief Ethics Officer.
