Pasteurized Milk Ordinance
The Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, published by the Food and Drug Administration, outlines minimum standards and requirements for Grade A Milk production and processing. Grade A standards are recommended by the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS), which is composed of voting representatives from state regulatory agencies, and nonvoting representatives of the dairy industry and FDA. As a general rule, FDA accepts the Conference recommendations and incorporates them into the revised PMO.
Ohio has adopted the PMO as the rules and regulations for Grade A milk production and processing. The current edition is the 2019 PMO. You can view or download the PMO by utilizing the Download File link to the right.
Changes for the 2019 Pasteurized Milk Ordinance
Every two years, the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS) holds a meeting to debate proposed changes to the PMO. As a result of that meeting, a document is issued by the FDA summarizing the actions of the NCIMS. For the most recent conference in St. Louis, Missouri, in May 2019, IMS-a-52 was issued. These changes will be incorporated into the 2019 PMO.
